JOHN C. MCILWRAITH
John McIlwraith leads Blue Chip’s Healthcare industry practice and, together with Jack Wyant, has been active in the leadership and strategic direction of the Firm since 2000. He is responsible for six Blue Chip IV companies, including Endocyte, Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals, Renal Solutions, and HealthScribe, reflecting his focus on investments in drug, device, and technology-enabled healthcare services companies. John is active in the Midwest region’s venture community and, among other roles, is a founding member and serves on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Venture Capital Association.
Before joining Blue Chip in 1997, John was the senior vice president of strategic planning of Indianapolis-based Quantum Health Resources, a publicly-traded healthcare services company that provided drugs and related therapies to patients with chronic diseases. At Quantum, John led business development efforts, including managed care initiatives and new drug launches for Biogen and Glaxo, and worked closely with the sales and marketing teams and regional managers. Upon Quantum’s sale to Olsten Health Services, John became the senior vice president, business development, of Olsten (now Gentiva). Prior to Quantum, John was a partner with the Jones Day law firm where he co-founded the firm’s Private Ventures practice group. While at Jones Day, John represented venture capital firms and a number of early-stage healthcare companies.

EDUCATION John received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hillsdale College in 1981, and a Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1985. |
